Important Information

Group Lessons

We use the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Classes are typically held one day a week for six to nine weeks. Click the "REGISTER NOW" button at the top of the page to register for classes.

Things To Know

• Registration for the upcoming session starts during week 5 or 7 of current classes. Progress Reports are handed out. Please register your child for the level given to them on the progress report. 
• During the first week of lessons your child will be shown where to wait for swim lessons. In the following weeks please take your child to their spot a few minutes before lessons start.
• During lessons we ask that parents sit on the bleachers or outside, not at the wall or sitting on the floor near class. 
• Classes will be combined if needed so all classes run. 
• We do not offer make-up classes for a missed lesson.
• MGHS Pool has a No-Refund Policy.

 

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons

We offer private/semi-private/small group lessons for adults and children. Private lessons can be scheduled with one of our instructors by contacting the pool directly. We do have a waitlist for these lessons so it's a good idea to get you name on the list early.  Registration is open at the pool, not online!

Currently we have 15 families on our Wait List.

Cost of 6, 30-minute lessons

Private: R $135/NR $160

*Semi-Private: (Group of 2)  R $200/NR $255 (total for both participants)

*Small Group of 3: R $295/NR $370 (total for participants)

*We do not make matches for semi private and small group lessons

*Children in semi-private group members must be of similar age AND ability

Swim faster private lessons

*For youth swimmers age 8 and older looking to improve stroke technique and competition performance. Individualized Attention that includes an evaluation of current technique and recommendations for improvement.

Your instructor will zero in on one or two keys areas each lesson and then teach drills and exercises for improvement routines. This class is open to competitive age group swimmers.  These lessons will focus mainly on freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and flip turns. Lessons are 45 minutes in length.

6-pack classes: Res $210/NR $245
8-pack: Res $280/NR $325

*8-pack group: Res $420/NR $485

*Max of 4 swimmers. All participants must be of similar ability.

Swim Faster lesson cancellations will be accepted up to 24 hours prior to a lesson. Please contact your instructor via phone or email. If you fail to show up for your lesson and do not call or email, you will be charged for the lesson.

Private/Semi-Private Lessons:

Specializing in optimal distance and open water swimming. These lessons will focus mainly on freestyle, open water techniques, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and flip turns. Lessons are 45 minutes in length.

Swim Faster Refresher

One-hour session to review your current technique with stroke improvement in mind. Includes critique and a set of drills to use in future swim workouts. Ideally for those who have already done the 6-pack or 8-pack Swim Faster program, although anyone looking for improvement is welcome. Designed for intermediate to expert swimmers. Beginners should sign up for a 6- or 8-pack of lessons.

Price: Res $55 per hour/NR $65 per hour

Group Swim Lessons:

Fitness Swimmer - Adaptive

Adult Fitness Swimmer – Adaptive is designed for adults with disabilities or special needs who want to improve their swimming skills, endurance, and overall fitness in a supportive environment. Participants will work toward individualized goals through adapted techniques and guided instruction tailored to each swimmer’s ability level.  

 

Masters Swimming

Masters Swimming is a fun and challenging workout that helps improve stroke technique while building endurance.  Coach Jerry and Coach Carl have years of experience working with all swimming abilities from seasoned athletes to beginning lap swimmers.  Coaches Jerry and Carl are able to help you with whatever your fitness goals might be in the morning practice. 

 

Open Water Training

Open Water Training is designed for triathletes looking for a place to practice their open water skills, technique and endurance while the lakes are too cold.  Both seasoned triathletes and beginners alike are welcome. OWT will give you the opportunity to learn, practice and improve important open water swimming skills with someone who has years of experience. Coach Zeus from E3 Coaching has years of hands on experience including  training and competing in a  full Ironman himself. Throughout the session Coach Z will be able to give you  pointers on your stroke technique in addition to continued feedback/practice on skills such as: sighting, pack swimming and turning.

Schedule Key

Lap swim = Swimming length of pool back and forth. Children under 18 must pass deep water test to use lap lanes. 

Open swim = Family/toy friendly 

Residents and non-residents can purchase memberships and passes to the pool. 

Membership Rates and Fees

Club/Organizational rentals of the entire facility include a minimum of two lifeguards, pool equipment, and all pool facilities (locker rooms, deck, etc). 

1 hour minimum rental for the entire facility.

If swimmers are not able to pass the MGHS Pool Deep Water Swim Test, additional lifeguard/s may be required at an additional cost. Groups of 40 or more swimmers will require an additional lifeguard at an additional cost.

• Lane rentals are available Monday through Thursday from 4-8pm. 
• Lane rental requests may be made for 2, 3, 4 or 5 lanes. 
• Requesters renting 6 or more lanes will be required to rent the entire facility. 
• 2 hour lane rental minimum. 

Team rentals shall be secured through the Monona Grove School District with proper documentation and insurance at least one week prior. Once you are signed up as a requester, you can request the dates/times you wish to reserve the facility. If approved, you will receive an email notification and a final invoice after the event.

Approved swim instructors must hold current swim instructor or coaching certification issued by the American Red Cross, United States Swim School Association, USA Swimming, USA Masters Swimming, the YMCA, Ellis & Associates, or USA Triathlon.

Pool Rental Rates 

• Pool rentals of the entire facility include:
   
  • A minimum of two lifeguards
  • Use of all pool equipment
  • Access to all pool facilities (locker rooms, pool deck, etc.)
     
• A 1-hour minimum is required for full facility rentals.

• Available Monday through Thursday, 4:00–8:00 PM
   
• Lane rental options: 2, 3, 4, or 5 lanes
   
• Requests for 6 or more lanes require rental of the entire facility
   
• A 2-hour minimum is required for all lane rentals
   
• Effective July 1, 2025:
   
  • Lane rental rate: $10/lane/hour
     
  • Additional lifeguard: $16/hour

Approved swim instructors must hold a current certification from one of the following organizations:

• American Red Cross
• United States Swim School Association
• USA Swimming
• USA Masters Swimming
• YMCA
• Ellis & Associates
• USA Triathlon

Proof of certification can be submitted to heidi.stroess@mgschools.net.

• If any individual swimmer or any swimmer from a group rental cannot pass the MGHS Pool Deep Water Swim Test (see below), additional lifeguard(s) may be required at an additional cost.
   
• All rentals with 40 or more swimmers require an additional lifeguard at an additional cost.

To ensure participant safety, all rental participants who wish to swim in the deep end are required to pass the MGHS Deep Water Swim Test.

Swim Test Requirements

Participants must:

• Jump into the deep end of the pool
• Tread water or float for 1 minute
• Complete a 360-degree turn in the water
• Orient themselves toward the shallow end
• Swim 25 yards using front crawl and/or elementary backstroke
• Exit the pool from the side (use of ladder, ramp, or stairs is not permitted)
   

Supervision & Safety for Non-Passing Participants

• Children who do not pass the deep water test and cannot stand with head above water at the safety rope must be accompanied within arm’s reach by a parent, guardian, or approved instructor at all times.
• These children may be required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approved flotation device. Approved flotation devices are available at the pool.
  Ratio Requirement: One adult per two children who have not passed the swim test and cannot touch.
• Supervision of children is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Lifeguards are responsible for emergency response.
   

• Children under age 8 must be within arm’s reach of an adult (18+) at all times.
   
• Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the facility at all times.
   
• Diving is only permitted in the 7 ft. deep water off the south end (between the starting blocks). No diving in shallow areas or along pool sides.
   
• Breath-holding activities are not permitted for safety.
   
• The pool ledge/railing along lane 8 may be used; no jumping or playing on it.
   
• Horseplay, rough play, running, shoving, and dunking are not allowed.
   
• Respectful language is expected at all times.
   
• All patrons must shower before entering the pool and after using the restroom.
   
• Patrons with communicable diseases, open wounds, or contagious conditions should not enter the pool.
   
• Alcohol or substance use is prohibited on pool grounds.
   
• Long hair must be tied back or covered with a swim cap.
   
• Appropriate swimwear is required. Cut-off shorts or clothing with rivets, buttons, or zippers are not allowed.
   
• Non-toilet-trained patrons must wear swim diapers or rubber pants over cloth diapers and a swimsuit. Diaper changing is not allowed on the pool deck.
   
• Shoes must be removed when on the pool deck.
   
• Animals are not permitted in the pool area.
   
• Food, drink, gum, and tobacco products are not allowed on the pool deck.
   
• Glass or shatterable items are prohibited.
   
• Swimming is only permitted when a lifeguard is on duty.
   
• All patrons must follow the instructions of lifeguards and instructors.
   
• Diving blocks may only be used during lessons or coach-supervised swim practice.
   
• Deep water swim tests may be required by facility staff as needed.
   
• All applicable laws must be followed at all times.

The pool reserves the right to:

• Adjust schedules
• Combine classes
• Cancel or close programs as needed

The Monona Grove Pool has a No-Refund Policy, except when the Pool cancels a class.

• Prorated credit may be issued in cases of severe illness or injury.
• Refunds are not provided for:
  • Incorrect class registration
  • Participant cancellation or withdrawal
• Locker rooms close 15 minutes after the last scheduled activity.
• If the Monona Grove School District cancels school and/or activities, the pool will be closed.
