2026-2027 4K Information

Children who reside in the Monona Grove School District and are four years old on or before September 1st. A four-year-old who resides outside the district may apply through the Open Enrollment process IF their home district offers a DPI-approved four-year-old program. The student must meet the criteria for Open Enrollment and the application must be received between the designated dates set by DPI. Learn more about the Open Enrollment process.

There will be no more than 10 children to every 1 adult (often much less).

Enrollment for the following school year begins in January. Communication will be sent to all district families. If you do not receive notification, you can register your eligible 4K student using the enrollment process.

There is no cost to families to attend, however, we do charge a minimal school fee for consumable supplies.

We offer half-day 4K. AM Session: 7:45 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. PM Session: 12:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Yes, but with an additional day off the first Monday of the month (with some exceptions) for staff development time.

Cottage Grove School offers a Wrap Care program which provides childcare when your child is not in the 4K classroom. Seats are limited. Please email natalie.richter@mgschools.net with any questions.

Winnequah School offers a wrap care program through Monona Parks and Recreation. Please email jlabegglen@ci.monona.wi.us with any questions.

Early Socialization: 4K provides children with opportunities to interact with peers, helping them develop social skills such as sharing, cooperation, and communication.

Cognitive Development: Children engage in activities that promote early literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, laying the foundation for academic success.

Emotional Growth: It helps children build emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence as they navigate new experiences and challenges.

Physical Development: 4K includes activities that improve motor skills, coordination, and overall physical health through play and structured physical activities.

Preparation for School Routine: It helps children adapt to a structured environment, learning basic routines like following directions, staying organized, and working independently, which are essential for future academic settings.

By choosing to enroll in MGSD 4K programming, families are expected to follow MGSD attendance policies. Consistent 4K attendance is critical to a student's academic and social success.

Families are able to excuse their student for up to 10 days per year due to illness, vacation, or other reasons. 

If a student is kept home due to a medical, dental, or mental health appointment; or on the recommendation of a medical provider due being in poor health, parents can provide a medical note and the absence will be marked Medical-Excused. Medical-excused absences do not count towards the 10 day parent excused limit and won’t contribute to potential chronic absenteeism.

Documentation for an appointment or a provider’s recommendation for a student to stay home for medical reasons can include a note from the doctor, an appointment confirmation showing the date and time of a student’s appointment, or a MyChart message from a medical provider.

Families are expected to contact school if their student will miss school to share the reason for their absence. You can call the main office, email the attendance line, or use the Infinite Campus mobile app to report an absence.
