Registration & Enrollment

In accordance with the Monona Grove School District’s Admission Policy, any child who meets the entrance age requirements and resides in the boundaries of the district shall be admitted to school in the district. Please check Access Dane to make sure your address is in the Monona Grove School District. If you currently do NOT reside within the attendance boundary of the district please see Open Enrollment.

The Monona Grove School District is a public school district serving nearly 3,600 students. Students can join our classrooms beginning at 4 years old through grade 12 or high school graduation. Special education services for students with identified disabilities are provided from age 3 through 21. Our students attend elementary schools in their community, then come together and attend middle school and high school as one community.  

Cottage Grove students attend: 
Taylor Prairie School (4K-K)
Cottage Grove School (Grades 1-2)
Granite Ridge School (Grades 3-5)

Monona students attend:
Winnequah School (4K-5)

Students from both communities attend:
Glacial Drumlin School (Grades 6-8) or MG21 Middle Campus
Monona Grove High School (Grades 9-12) or MG21 Upper Campus

Proof of Residency: (One item listed below, this may be uploaded directly into online enrollment form)

• Lease Agreement: name, address, effective date and all parties signatures
• Current Utility Bill: gas, electric or city/village water with your name, address and current service address. We do not accept insurance, telephone, cable bills or closing statements as proof of residency
• Accepted Purchase Agreement: name, address, occupancy or closing date and all signatures (additional proof may be requested once you have occupied the residence)

All students who are new or who are reentering the district after an extended period of time need to complete an enrollment application. Click New Student Registration to begin:

Once the online enrollment form has been submitted, the District Registrar will contact you via email with next steps.  Please allow 1-3 business days for your application to be processed.

Once all the necessary documents have been submitted, enrollments (while school is in session) are generally processed within 1-2 days. During summer and vacation times this may take considerably longer.

The district uses Infinite Campus Parent Portal to link guardians to their student's demographic and educational information. If you do not currently have an account, you will receive an email once your online application has been approved with information on how to create one. Campus Parent can be accessed on the web or mobile app. There will be limited student information in the portal until the next school year becomes active in late July/early August.

Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of that school year to be eligible for Kindergarten. To qualify for 4K, students must turn 4 years old on or before September 1 of that school year.

Fees will be available sometime after August 1 and can be paid online through your Campus Parent Portal.

The district provides a variety of meal options for breakfast and lunch. Menus for each school can be found on our website along with additional resources and forms. Money for food purchases can be made online through your Campus Parent Portal account.

Transportation for MGSD students is provided by Nelson's Bus Service. To check transportation zones and sign up for busing, please visit our transportation page. Sign up is available starting in June.

For 4K students, we offer wrap care at Taylor Prairie School in Cottage Grove. We have partnered with Monona Parks and Recreation to provide wrap care for 4K students attending Winnequah School beginning in the 2024-25 school year, which will be held at Maywood School. All wrap care information can be found on our 4K Information page.

Besides this, we do not directly offer before or after school care. However, there are numerous facilities that provide childcare in our communities. The district provides bus service to a number of these locations along with service to resident in-home daycare providers, enrichment programs, etc. District elementary schools can provide you with a list of some options. You will need to contact a site/program directly for more information.

Early Socialization: 4K provides children with opportunities to interact with peers, helping them develop social skills such as sharing, cooperation, and communication.

Cognitive Development: Children engage in activities that promote early literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, laying the foundation for academic success.

Emotional Growth: It helps children build emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence as they navigate new experiences and challenges.

Physical Development: 4K includes activities that improve motor skills, coordination, and overall physical health through play and structured physical activities.

Preparation for School Routine: It helps children adapt to a structured environment, learning basic routines like following directions, staying organized, and working independently, which are essential for future academic settings.

By choosing to enroll in MGSD 4K programming, families are expected to follow MGSD attendance policies. Consistent 4K attendance is critical to a student's academic and social success.

Families are able to excuse their student for up to 10 days per year due to illness, vacation, or other reasons. 

If a student is kept home due to a medical, dental, or mental health appointment; or on the recommendation of a medical provider due being in poor health, parents can provide a medical note and the absence will be marked Medical-Excused. Medical-excused absences do not count towards the 10 day parent excused limit and won’t contribute to potential chronic absenteeism.

Documentation for an appointment or a provider’s recommendation for a student to stay home for medical reasons can include a note from the doctor, an appointment confirmation showing the date and time of a student’s appointment, or a MyChart message from a medical provider.

Families are expected to contact school if their student will miss school to share the reason for their absence. You can call the main office, email the attendance line, or use the Infinite Campus mobile app to report an absence.
