Students will eat lunch during their scheduled "A" day lunch period and there will not be a snack break in the morning. Students have been made aware of the change.
On Monday, February 6th, 2017, the Monona Grove School District will hold its annual Early Learning Fair and Together 4 Kids Registration at Nichols School (MG District Office) in Monona. This event is a free service to families of pre-school children. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with a professional to share information about their child’s development and to register for the 2017-2018 T4K program. Registration information will be sent to families in mid December. Parents should call the Early Education Office at 839-2113 to schedule an appointment upon receipt of registration materials. If you have any new neighbors with young children aged birth to 4 ½, please have them call Gina in the Early Education Office at 839-2113.
To help you and your family understand how we make our decision to close or delay schools during the winter weather, we have provided you with some information below. Our primary concern is the safety of all children. The decision to close schools due to severe winter weather is made using the best available weather information and consulting with surrounding school districts.
Weather conditions may cause one of the following:
Two-Hour Delay: School will begin two hours after normal start time to allow streets and highways to be cleared.
School Closing: School is canceled due to unsafe weather conditions for all or most of the school day.
Early Release: Students are released early due to poor conditions, impacting safe transportation from school to home.
Factors we consider to determine if schools will be CLOSED:
Large amounts of accumulation
Drifting and blowing
Unsafe road conditions throughout the district
If a Wind Chill WARNING is issued by the National Weather Service, schools will most likely be closed.
If a Wind Chill WATCH is issued, schools will be open.
A decision to delay or close schools will be made by 6:00 a.m. on school days. The announcement of closing or delaying school will be made via email and phone messages sent to all students’ homes/families based on personal parent communication selections within the parent portal of Infinite Campus. Additionally, announcements will be made via the local radio and television stations, as well as posted on the district web page at www.mononagrove.org. Should weather or road conditions cause the school district to close schools once the children are in attendance, similar announcements will be made.
The Monona Grove School District uses Infinite Campus, an online student management system to send special alerts and notices to families. The effectiveness of this notification system is dependent on the District having the most current contact information from parents/guardians. Parents/guardians must keep their student contact information up-to-date within the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in order to receive these special alerts, available via text, phone call or email (at your discretion). Parents/guardians who change their home phone, cell phone, work phone or email address are encouraged to update their information as soon as possible.
Parents who feel the weather conditions pose an undue risk for their child are encouraged to use their own judgment in making a decision whether or not to send your child to school. Students kept home due to this parental decision will be considered excused.
