6th Grade Band.
Mrs. Stone, Director
At the 6th grade level, students are taught the rudiments instrumental music and performance.
Band members learn to assemble and care for their instruments, learn basic notation and music reading, learn how to interpret notation on their particular instrument, learn how to play as an individual or in a larger ensemble. The 6th Grade Band is split into
two sections of even instrumentation for rehearsal. These sections combine into one very large band for concert performance.
7th Grade Band
Mr. Kasparek, Director
At the 7th grade level, students continue instruction on their instruments with more advanced technique and musicianship. Students practice music of a more challenging nature, and are exposed to various styles. The 7th-Grade Band is split into two sections of even instrumentation for rehearsal. These two sections are combined into one large band for concert performance.
8th Grade Band
Mrs. Stone, Director
At the 8th grade level, students concentrate on
instrumental and ensemble technique, taking their musicianship to the next
level. Students participate in Solo/Ensemble Festival, and attend a
Conference Music Clinic. The 8th-Grade Band also produces a CD, featuring
music they have performed throughout their experience at Winnequah.
The 8th Grade Band will perform with the High School Marching Band
at the Monona Grove Homecoming. The halftime show is a tribute to
the Beatles, and the 8th Grade band will perform

The Winnequah Jazz Ensemble, comprised of 8th Grade Band students, meets before school, two times a week for 30

consent of the instructor. The Winnequah Jazz Ensemble introduces students
to the styles associated with jazz and big band music. The ensemble learns the
basics of swing and jazz articulation, and is introduced to
improvisation using blues scales. The ensemble performs at the
Winnequah Talent Show, Spring Concert, and the Erle Smith/Doc DeHaven
