Our Projects...
he Foundation supports
creative, innovative and nurturing pilot programs and projects that benefit
students, teachers, and the educational environment as a whole.
The following grants are examples of current activities supported by the foundation: Attendance for one teacher at the Wisconsin School Leadership Academy in June. The conference will have four experts in the area of leadership, student learning and relationships. The topics include: 1) what makes a successful school work, 2) leadership and learning connecting every level of leadership to improve learning and tips for bringing leadership into the classroom, 3) classroom assessment and grading that works, and 4) connectedness and personalization: building student relationships that lead to student academic success. Funded through the Onsager Grant. The funding supports the cost of training for up to ten teachers in the district to be GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) certified. The GLOBE project is an international program that promotes and supports students, teachers and scientists to collaborate on inquiry-based investigations of the environment and the earth system through hands-on research projects. Funded through the Onsager Grant. This grant will fund the purchase of a Classroom Performance System (CPS). The CPS is an innovative, proven technology which allows a classroom to become an interactive learning environment through the use of individual remote-control 'clickers.' Students using the system give teachers instant feedback as to how well the class understands a given concept allowing for immediate modification of lesson plans based on student understanding. Funded through the Huntington Learning Center Grant. Funding to begin a
school-community garden at the Glacial Drumlin School in Cottage Grove.
This project will enhance student learning with hands-on projects, meaning
and relevance to learning. Improve children’s health by giving
exercise digging and working in the garden. Teach children how food is
grown and expand the range of healthful foods they eat. Build and
strengthen the between the school and Monona and Cottage Grove communities.
Help green the school by harvesting rain water and planting some native
perennials. Develop lunchroom composting program to reduce school
waste. Funding will assist with purchasing tools, seeds, and supplies
for gardening. Funding through Phoebe Bakken grant. |
