Eighth Grade Spanish

What Are We Going to Do in This Class?

This is a year-long class designed to build a solid foundation for those wishing to continue with the study of the Spanish language.  8th Grade Spanish is a continuation of the 7th grade program.  Students that earn A's and B's in 8th grade are encouraged to continue studying Spanish at the high school (Spanish II).  Students with lower grades are encouraged to retake Spanish I, which is not the same at the program here at Winnequah.  Students will learn to write, read, and speak Spanish with very limited proficiency. We will cover topics such as present, present progressive, preterite, and tú command verb forms and phrases, feelings and emotions, numbers up to a million, clothing and accessories, body parts and facial features, possessions, directions and directional words, chores, requests, and opinions.  We will review the present tense of regular and irregular verbs first quarter, 2nd quarter we will focus on the progressive and command forms of verbs, 3rd quarter we will learn preterit verbs forms, and 4th quarter there will be a 2-week review for the final exam.  The exam includes everything from 7th-8th grade.  There will be 2-4 homework assignments per week and a quiz every 5-7 school days.  Each quarter also contains a major project which will become a part of their portfolio.  In the spring students will chose 2-3 projects for their Passage Portfolio; the remaining projects will be sent home.  If you ever have questions or concerns about your child's progress in Spanish please don't hesitate to call his/her Spanish teacher.
