The Taylor Prairie Instructional Media Center serves a population of approximately 400 students in grades PreK-2. The physical facility consists of a large library area, computer lab, office with material processing area, storage area, a parent and professional library/conference room and a book room. The library is automated and is using Follett Circ/Cat for Windows. There are two online catalog stations in the IMC and in addition the online catalog is available on 24 stations in the computer lab and in 22 classrooms.

Students checkout books on a weekly basis during their scheduled library time. In addition they can checkout books on a per need basis. Maximum number of books for 1st and 2nd graders is two. Kindergarten may checkout one book. Exceptions are made for special projects. Fines are not charged for overdues at this level, but students must return their books before they may check out another. Students/families are responsible for the cost of repairs for damaged materials and replacement for lost materials. Students may check out books and magazines. Other materials may be used in the building if checked out by the classroom teacher.

Staff

Staff members may check out materials for extended periods. If the material is needed by another staff member, a request will be made for return of the material after a reasonable period. There is no limit as to the number of materials a staff member may checkout, however for grade level units, collections on the subject may be checked out to the grade level team to be shared between the classrooms. In addition rotating classroom libraries may be checked out for a period of three weeks. Reference materials are circulated for one day and are to remain in the building.
