Cottage Grove Schools PTO Meeting Minutes
November 6, 2006
Attendance: Allison Russell, Pam Keiner, Angie Garey, Lisa Stangler, Juli Stinson, Sara White, Carol Doll, Barbara Berg, Chris Vroman, Kathy Stapleton, Renee Tennant, Mary Salvi, Sheryl Hahn, Jennifer Pickel
A. Principal Reports
Cottage Grove Schools/Renee Tennant - Students were still doing the WKCE. Student Council to sponsor a Veteran's Pancake Breakfast 11/10 from 7:30-8 in the cafeteria. Also taking place that night is Family Fun Night. Kids will be given the opportunity to sign up for Karaoke this week. Third grade students are sponsoring a red wagon food collection. Neil and Nancy Hacker to report on school forest boardwalk at 12/11 meeting.
Taylor Prairie School/Barbara Berg - First Grade Breakfast with Books was a great success - approximately 200 people in attendance. Kathy Sanders implemented a new program through Safari Montage Video. It is a online system and teachers have been trained on how to access short clips of videos that are focused on a goal they are teaching. 65 students have been selected for the Second Grade Ambassador program. There are 4 groups of students and each group will serve a 2 month term. The first group headed up the Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat program and over 1200 food items were collected for the Cottage Grove Food Pantry. Funding requests of $500 for the Early Learning Fair and Field trip funding for students in need were made.
C. Vice President's report - New school construction was discussed. Pam also reported on the school board meeting. The school board plans to use investment money from money borrowed for school to construct a road. This was approved despite an argument from Monona residents. It was reinforced that attendance at the annual school board meeting is very important.
D. Secretary's Report
September minutes were read. and Juli made a motion to approve. The motion was seconded by Mary. Motion approved. October minutes were read. Lisa made a motion to approve and Pam seconded the motion. Motion approved.
E. Treasurer's Report
No treasurer's report this month.
Committee Reports
A. Scrip - half of the profits to go to the music department this month.
B. Spirit Wear - order forms in the newsletter
C. Family Fun night - scheduled for 11/10 6:30-8:30. The theme is Hawaiian Luau. A volunteer for the spirit wear table is needed.
D. Conference Food - discussed purchasing 3 new roasters. Juli will by them.
E. Holiday Festival - A lot of nice quality items have been donated for the Elf Shelf. Papa Jimmy's is doing _ sheets on their pizzas.
New Business
A. Ideas for the board walk in the school forest were discussed.
B. Holiday fest is the first weekend in December. Santa will be there from 11-2.
C. Join the PTO presidents meeting set for December 4th. We discussed how to handle the situation. It was suggested that the idea of separation in the new school (Cottage Grove v. Monona) and the idea of allocation of funds not be brought up - treat the school as a school as a whole, not kids from separate communities.
