PTO Meeting Minutes

February 19, 2007

Attendance: Kathi Seman, Susan Welsch, Betsy Zande, Lisa Baudhuin, Barbara Berg, Lori Shanahan, Kelly Frudenlund, Jaime Schmied, Cathy Gilmore-Nelson, Jim Frisque, Juli Stinson, Carol Doll, Chris Vroman, Renee Tennant, Sheryl Hahn, Jennifer Pickel

Introductions made; thank you from teachers for parent/teacher conference meals was passed around.

A. Principal Reports

Cottage Grove Schools/Renee Tennant &endash; Preparations for the new school ground breaking are being made. Students from grades 3-6 around the district will participate in the ceremony to take place on March 10 at the site. The boardwalk project will be presented to the Business Services Committee on March 19. The Student Council joined with the district office to provide a bus driver's breakfast on February 20. Read Across America is going on in March. Highlights include March 2 &endash; Dr. Seuss' birthday, teacher swap and read and a book drive March 5-9 &endash; donations to go to UW Children's Hospital and program for homeless families of Dane County. All school concert entitled "When Seasons Change" will take place on March 1 at 10 am and 1:30 pm in the gym. Special requests were as follows: $450 for a Conservationalist from Aldo Leopold for all third graders and $930 for the 5th grade musical. Mr. Frisque talked to us about his ideas and the benefits of the musical. The theme planned was the American West.

Taylor Prairie School/Barbara Berg &endash; Jump rope for heart is February 20/21. Feburay 22 is an inservice day. System changes for 2007/08 school year will be discussed. Kids will be collecting donations for the new library for Read Across American on March 2. Kindergarten Round-up was a great success with around 130 students attending. There is a committee discussing the possibility of 4K as a possibility and will be making a recommendation in May or June. Taylor Prairie is losing Kristi Massey to a position with the high school athletic program. She will be greatly missed!

C. Vice President's report &endash; Cathy Gilmore-Nelson: Budget was done at the school board meeting. New school timeline &endash; 3/5 they will mobilize to the new site. 3/10 is the scheduled ground breaking ceremony. The Winnequah bid is due on 3/19 and construction is planned to start on 6/11. The school calendar was planned for 3 years out.

D. Secretary's Report &endash; Jennifer Pickel: Minutes for February were reviewed. Susan Welsch made a motion to approve; Sheryl Hahn seconded the motion; motion carried.

E. Treasurer's Report &endash; Lisa Baudhuin: Report was presented and reviewed. Jennifer Pickel made a motion to approve; Cathy Gilmore-Nelson seconded the motion; motion carried.

Committee Reports

A. Family Fun Night &endash; committee is discussing canceling movie night for next year and the possibility of 2 dances.

Old Business

A. We discussed alternative materials for the boardwalk.

B. Science is Fun &endash; Lisa will write a check to cover the costs of this event and the PTO will then deposit the money that is collected the night of the event &endash; March 9.

C. Agreed to postpone vote on the outdoor recreation equipment for the new school to a later date. It was noted that the Monona PTO plans to donate $2000.

New Business

A. Our students were invited to a movie at the Monona Grove High School on February 22 by the Monona Elementary PTO. Admission is $1.

B. Extra popcorn from movie night to go to the Cottage Grove Schools Student Council. The extra soda from the event will go for Parent Teacher Conferences in March.

C. Registration for 2007/08 school year is August 16.
