Art is a unique area in the elementary curriculum because:

it allows your child

	to create work that is meaningful and satisfying to them
	to develop their creative potential

	it also requires them to *think*,
	and to solve both concrete and creative problems.

it helps build your child’s

	visual awareness,
	technical knowledge,
	and fine motor skills,

the process of creating art requires

decision-making,

individual and group problem-solving,

and expects children to express thoughts and ideas

All of these processes together

help to develop your child’s critical thinking skills,

which are vital to their development as an individual,

and as a productive member of their community.
