APPETIZERS
Music
classes follow the Monona Grove
Music Curriculum and the National Standards for Music Education. Activities
will include:

Singing a varied repertoire. | |

Performing instruments with a varied repertoire. | |

Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments. | |

Composing and arranging music within specific guidelines. | |

Reading and notating music. | |

Listening to, analyzing, and describing music. | |

Understanding relationships between music and other areas. | |

Students
receive music class twice a week for 40 minutes. The primary goals for music
class is to include both concepts to be learned and skills to be developed
that will provide a foundation for long-term student involvement, learning and
success.
STRING
PROGRAM
Students
may begin to study a string instrument in 4th grade and continue
through high school. They will receive class twice a week for 40 minutes plus
an extra “orchestra rehearsal” in 5th grade.
Students need to bring
instruments to the first class and purchase Essential
Elements 2000, Book 1 ($8.00)

Report cards are given out the first and third semester.

Music Scrap Books (portfolios) are used in general music classes in
grades 4 and 5 to
keep track of activities, provide opportunities for written reflection and
assessment, and individual creativity. Grade 3 students will need to
bring in a ring binder (any size, shape, or condition) at the beginning of the
year. It will be used for
three years. Grade 5 students have
already started their portfolios. They were collected at the end of last year
and are stored at school.
