Reading
At Nichols School, the IAP program stands for Individual Achievement Program. The program is designed to help students who are currently below grade level expectations in reading make progress in closing the gap with their peers. Each child's needs are assessed through various tests and teacher input; then the type of services that will benefit them the most is implemented. Sometimes it's working in a small group with an easier text, and at other times it is learning a reading skill that they haven't mastered yet with a different program.

Staff
There are several different staff members involved in the IAP Reading Program. Christine Charlson, who is the Reading Specialist at Nichols School, teaches several classes and oversees the program. Grace Kyllo and Linda Elsberrry, who are trained as special education teachers, also serve students who need extra guidance in reading. There are also many educational assistants who work with various teachers so that as many students as possible receive this extra support.
Contacts
There are two quick ways to contact any of the staff working with your child, email or telephone. The telephone number at Nichols School is 221-7677 and then dial 0 to talk with the secretary and ask for the staff member you want to talk to.
