Understanding Search Engines: Search Engine Showdown is a website designed to assist users in making the best possible choice when selecting a search engine. Information provided allows students to better understand how search engines work and how to use them effectively. Reference Resources: Bartleby.com provides free full-text access to a variety of resources. Materials available include reference, poetry, fiction and non-fiction works. Titles include: Gray’s Anatomy, Strunk’s Elements of Style, American Heritage Dictionary, James Ford Rhodes’ History of the Civil War, Charles Darwin’s The Voyage of the Beagle, Sinclair Lewis’ Babbitt and much more. This site is an excellent resource for student and teacher research. Library of Congress Resources: The Library of Congress website offers a wealth of information. Of particular interest are the American Memory and the Portals of the World segments. This is an excellent site for primary source research. Local, National and International Newspapers: NewsLink provides access to hundreds of newspapers worldwide. Access to this database is free of charge and an excellent resource for current events/issues research. Primary Source Research: The National Archives and Records Administration website is an excellent compliment to the primary source research possible at the Library of Congress. Both of these resources contain a treasure trove of information. Wisconsin Local History & Biography: This site contains thousands of newspaper articles published between 1860 and 1940 from around Wisconsin. The content is made available by the Wisconsin Historical Society: Internet Resource Citation Guide: This site contains proper citation instructions of electronic sources. Noodle Tools: Assists in creating a bibliography. |
