"All About Me"

Deb Whalen was born on July 3rd, 1957 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI. I am the 2nd of five children. After attending Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Madison Edgewood High School, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a full scholarship to play Division 1 Women's basketball for the Badger's. In 1981 I graduated with a BS in Education. Immediately following graduation I joined my Dad in running the family business - Whalen's Wonder Bar. After 12 years of long hours in the restaurant/bar business, I wanted a change. After getting sound advice from a good teacher friend of mine, I returned to school to get my Adaptive certification, and began substitute teaching in the Madison School District. Three years later I took an Educational Assistant position in the Monona Grove School District. In 1999 I was named the Adaptive Specialist for the MG District, and was hired full-time as a Physical Education teacher the following year.  I have taught Physical Education in all six of the Monona Grove School District's buildings, and finally settled at Maywood, my "home school".

During my free-time I enjoy working out, reading, and hanging out with my 3 nieces and one nephew (Chelsea -16, Jonathan-13, Madison-2, & Megan-6 months). Traveling has become a hobby as my sister Tammy lives in Florida, my brother Patrick is in Phoenix, and brother Dan lives in Seattle. My older brother Billy lives in Monona, and my Mom lives in Madison.
