Principal’s Report
Ann Schroeder reported that Orientation for next year will be changed to the evening of the first day of school to give teachers time to move into their rooms since remodeling will not be complete until the last minute. There will be Mandatory Orientation with parents from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. which will include a tour, unpacking school supplies, and 20 minutes in the classroom with the teacher. New parents to the School District will have an earlier orientation at 4:30 p.m. This day will count as an attendance day for students.
Ann wanted to know how many people had noticed the last day of school was moved from Wednesday the 11th to Tuesday the 10th. Most people did not know. She will send out a notice in the back packs.
Ann offered the Maywood .8 Assistant Principal job to Jan Chynoweth, but she has not responded yet.
There are not retirements this year. There is an opening for a 6th grade teacher to joint Keiler and Burt.
There will be a Task force to evaluate the future of Maywood School, and evaluate 6th grade programming. Ann says it is tricky to find someone to teach 5 weeks of Phy Ed. The task force is to have conclusions by December.
The new Superintendent is to start July 1.
There was a pie party to raise money for the tile mural at the new Winnequah, which raised $1300. There will be a big pie party in September.
The new Mascot will be revealed soon, either “Wonders” or “Dreamers” and they will use MG colors.
Ann is expecting a report from the Dane County Sheriff on the walking issues, and is still concerned about needing another crossing guard and the location of the guard on Nichols.
Connie arrived in between District Meetings to report she told the kids she was leaving Maywood last Wednesday. She says it has been a great seven years.
Maywood is having a Power Dolls activity where you wrap a statement about yourself in a doll. The second grade is going to Vitense. Connie mentioned they have a lot of new materials coming into the Resource Room, and parents should check it out.
Recent Events.
The Figureheads were a huge hit.
Jennifer Klotzbach and Jennifer Oscar thanked PTO for the Overture Bus Money. They reported everyone loved Science night and it was well attended. They also expressed how much they liked the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
June 6 is Maywood Field Day. After Lunch they are having a African Country fund raising event for African Charities from the countries chosen.
Upcoming events.
The class of 2020 will be in the Memorial Day Parade, and some children will be singing the Anthem.
The End of the Year Dance in Friday June 6 from 6:30-8:30. There will be a DJ, Facepainting and Ice Cream.
The Monona Optimists are running the Bike Safety Rodeo on June 2nd for Bike to Schol Day. Ann is concerned that kids are not locking their bikes.
Leah wondered if there will be a Monona PTO table at the Farmers Market. She is also wondering what we should put in the registration packets that go out the last day.
Updates:
Not many people were signed up to pack for the move to Winnequah during the last week of school.
Leah is stepping down from the PTO Board. Thanks Leah for a great year! There were some thoughts on how to get involvement for next year.
Penny reported there will be one more Market Day at the library. They made $300 last month. Orders are up a little.
