I. Call to Order –Kathy Bultman called the
meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.
II. Declaration of Public Notice – Gary Schumacher confirmed that public notice had been declared for the meeting.
III. Public
Appearances – There were no public appearances.
IV. Approval of the Minutes from the April 28, 2004 Committee Meeting – Phil McDade moved to approve the minutes of the April 28, 2004 meeting. Mike DuPlayee seconded. The minutes were approved as distributed.
V. Discussion of Request for Alternative Credit for High School Physical Education – Bill Breisch reported that a letter was received from Themis Flores de Pierquet regarding her daughter receiving physical education credit for dance classes she takes. Discussion was held. The committee agreed that if this request were approved, many other types of requests would be submitted for the consideration of granting high school credit. At this time, only those courses offered at the high school will be granted credit.
VI. Director of Instruction Report. Bill Breisch reported on several items:
A. Review of Middle School Social Studies Instructional Materials – More time is needed by middle school teachers to review the materials they will suggest to purchase for Grades 7-8 Social Studies. He anticipates that a presentation will be made at the June Curriculum Committee meeting.
B. Monona Grove School District Assessment Principles and Guidelines – A task group has been meeting regarding grading and reporting over the past school year. The task group will make a presentation at a future Curriculum Committee meeting. It is anticipated that the committee’s recommendations will be implemented over time.
C. Review of Assessment (K-12)
D. Staff Development Plans – A plan of staff development has been developed for the 2004-05 school year.
E. Other Areas – DPI Waiver for collaborative planning time for elementary teachers – A complication has surfaced based on the information submitted to DPI. According to DPI, the District is not in compliance with state statutes due to compensatory time granted to teachers for parent-teacher conferences. The MGEA Calendar Committee will be re-convened next week to discuss these issues.
VII. Other Agenda Items – There were no other agenda items.
VIII. Set Date and Time for Next Meeting – The next Curriculum Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2004 – Nichols School – District Office Board Room – 6:15 p.m.
IX. Adjournment – Mike DuPlayee moved to adjourn the meeting. Phil McDade seconded. Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
