The Monona Grove Music Department is in line for some very deep cuts.  We encourage parents, students, and community member to review these cuts, and voice your oppinions and/or concerns at public school board hearings.  The final decision on these cuts will be handed down on March 24th.  Please contact any building administrator or school board member regarding times and locations of these hearings.

In summary, the proposed cuts to MG Music include:

• Elimination of 4th-Grade Strings
• Reduce instructional time in music in grades 3-5
• Reduce middle school music staff to one band, one choir, and one orchestra director

6th Grade Band Students Perform for Governor Doyle

Several 6th Grade Band students, under the direction of Janice Stone,
performed "Bugler's Dream" for Governor Jim Doyle.  Governor Doyle
visited Glacial Drumlin School on Friday, January 15th, to announce
Wisconsin's application for "Race To The Top" funding.

Music Performance at Monona Grove

Many students are involved in music at Monona Grove.  Performing groups include bands, choruses, orchestras and string groups, show choirs, and jazz ensembles.  Students in middle school and high school also form small instrumental and vocal ensembles for Solo/Ensemble Festival.  Middle and High School Students have the option to be involved in one, two, or all three areas of music:  Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.  Each group performs several times throughout the year.  In addition, several MGSD students participate in civic organizations such as the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras.
