With excitement building for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver (and Cottage Grove's own Jessie Vetter playing goalie for the Women's Team USA Hockey Team), we are planning for a lot of fun at Cottage Grove School. One program will be a "Reading Olympics" which involves classes earning gold, silver, and bronze medals for reading at home. Watch for details explaining this event!
Dr. Seuss/"Read Across America" Day
On Tuesday, March 2 Cottage Grove School will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday and "Read Across America" Day. This day is all about promoting reading in our school. There will be guest readers coming to Cottage Grove School from Monona Grove High School throughout the day. We will also be having school-wide "Drop Everything and Read" times during the day.
Fourth Grade "Battle of the Books"
Fourth grade students are being introduced to a special reading program in early March. They will be given an opportunity to join in teams to read a designated list of books. This list of books represents a wide variety of literature, including a number of award winning titles. Teams will have 8 to 10 weeks to read these books in preparation for a competition in the middle of May. At that time, we will have a pizza lunch and contest to see which team recalls the most infomation from the books. The "Battle of the Books" provides a great chance for our fourth graders to quality literature in a fun and motivating program!
