WelcomeTo Summer School 2009!
4 WeekSession: Tuesday, June 16 – Friday, July 10
Information:
- The Cottage Grove site will be located at Taylor Prairie School. This site is for K-5 Cottage Grove students. There will be four class times available between 8:30-11:45.
- Bussing is not provided for K-5 students.
- Children may sign up for as many consecutive classes as she or he would like to take, but due to large numbers of enrollments, the number of classes available may be limited.
- Students may sign up for each class only once. Classes cannot be repeated during the same summer school session.
- There is a 15-minute mid morning recess. Students may bring a snack.
- Supervision does not start before the first class, so please have students arrive right at the start of their first class. There is no supervision after class dismisses at 11:45.
- All registration will be done online. Students who are referred for reading and mathematics will be pre-registered. This group of students will be able to register for enrichment classes to complete their schedules before other enrichment only students register.
- Students enrolling in enrichment classes will register starting April 21 at 6:00 pm. Please note the later start time. Please use your child’s CURRENT GRADE when registering. Parents can register online from your own home computer. If you do not have computer access at home, you may register in the Taylor Prairie or Winnequah computer labs on April 21 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Remember that it’s first come first served for enrichment classes, and we predict the spots to fill quickly. Monona Grove School District Summer School 2009
K-5 Taylor Prairie Site - Information for Parents
Note: If you have questions before June 16, please email us at summer_school@mononagrove.org.
Summer School Telephone Number: This information will be posted on our website after June 11th.
Summer School Office: Room 32
Site Supervisor: TBA Site Secretaries: Mrs. Jill Bertera & Mrs. Deb Wogsland
Dates: June 16-July 10
Schedule: 8:30–11:45, See Map and Course Schedule
On Your Way To Kindergarten Class Time: 8:15-11:30
*Please note that Reading Success and Math Success courses are each a double period of 90 minutes.
ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE:
Which entrance should my child use? We will use the same procedures as during the school year. Please use the main front doors for dropping off and picking up students. When picking up your child, please pull into the circle and stay to the right. All students will be instructed to stay on the sidewalks; please help us provide the safest arrival/dismissal procedure. Safety of students must be everyone’s top priority!
What time can my child arrive? Students may arrive five minutes before their first class, but no earlier. They should depart after their last class, as we don’t have supervision beyond 11:45. Students should report to the office if they are late. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
How will my child know which room to go to? Teachers will be available to help students find rooms. Please send your schedule with your child so that he or she knows his or her class schedule.
ATTENDANCE:
Do teachers take attendance at Summer School? Yes, attendance is taken at the beginning of each class period. Students who arrive late need to stop in the Office (Room 32) to check in. (Please do not use the Taylor Prairie Office, only the Summer School Office.) We will be calling to verify absences as part of our safe arrival policy.
Do I need to call in if my child is sick? Yes, please call the Summer School Office to report your child’s absence or email us – see last page in booklet.
Can my child miss Summer School for a vacation or other reason? Please try to avoid the 19 days of summer school if at all possible. If it is necessary, please fill out the attached absence form to inform the office of the days your child will miss. Remember that 70% attendance is required in order to enroll next year.
RECESS:
What will my child do at recess? Each day, students will have a break from classes for fifteen minutes. Teachers will supervise students outside on the playground.
What’s the snack policy? Your child may bring a snack and water or juice (no glass containers) to summer school to be eaten outside at recess.
MEDICATION:
What if my child needs to take medicine at Summer School? Medication will be administered by the Summer School secretary only if a newly completed “Request for Administering Medication” form has been filled out. Prescription medications, including inhalers and Epi-pens require your physician’s signature. No medication will be administered without a completed form. Parents need to bring the medication to Summer School on June 16.
STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
What are the basic rules for students to follow? 1) Be a friend, 2) Respect yourself and others, 3) Respect things that belong to others, and 4) Respect the school and school materials.
How will teachers help students meet the expectations? Teachers will continue to use the same positive, “above the line”, consistent approach to discipline as during the school year, which focuses on safety, respect, problem solving, and prevention of discipline problems. Parents will be called if a student’s behavior during Summer School is “below the line”.
