Greetings! With summer quickly approaching, you may be wondering about summer school. The following is a quick overview of the summer school program for students in grades 6-8. Please review this information and if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact one of the summer school cordinators.
Participation: The program for students in grades 6-8 emphasizes providing additional academic support for students. Students must be recommended for participation in one of the 3 courses below in order for them to enroll. Parents of students that are recommended for Summer School will be informed in a letter sent in May. There are 2 enrichment programs: track, and weight lifting. Students do NOT need a recommendation to register for these three programs.
Courses: The courses offered this year are:
1. Math for Success: Reinforcement of math concepts, such as basic computation skills. Students are recommended for this course based on their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores as well as their classroom performance.
2. Reading for Success: Reinforcement of reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and writing. Students are recommended for this course based on their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores as well as their classroom performance. Students at GDS also have the option of registering for Read 180. This option will be indicated in your registration letter if it is available.
