Grades 6-8

Greetings!  With summer quickly approaching, you may be wondering about summer school.  The following is a quick overview of the summer school program for students in grades 6-8.  Please review this information and if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact the summer school cordinator.

Participation: The program for students in grades 6-8 emphasizes providing additional academic support for students. Students must be recommended for participation in one of the 3 courses below in order for them to enroll. Parents of students that are recommended for Summer School will be informed in a letter sent in May. There are 3 enrichment programs: track, weight lifting and the diversity academy. Students do NOT need a recommendation to register for these three programs.

Courses: The courses offered this year are:
1.        Math for Success: Reinforcement of math concepts, such as basic computation skills. Students are recommended for this course based on their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores as well as their classroom performance.
2.       Reading for Success: Reinforcement of reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and writing. Students are recommended for this course based on their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores as well as their classroom performance.
3.       PASS: Reinforcement of skill areas addressed throughout the year in the subjects of English, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies. This course is only for students with a cumulative core grade point average below 1.7 (C-). Successful completion of the coursework is required for promotion to the next grade level.

Dates: June 16-July 10

Site: Monona Grove High School will host summer school for students in grades 6-12.

Schedule: Courses are 95 minutes in length (Period 1: 8:45-10:20, Break: 10:20-10:25, Period 2: 10:25-Noon)

Transportation: Bussing is provided for students in Cottage Grove with students being picked up at Taylor Prairie Elementary school at approximately 8:15 and taken to the high school. Students will be bussed back to Taylor Prairie Elementary School arriving at approximately 12:20.

Registration: All registration is online and can be accessed through this website by clicking here beginning April 21st. More detailed instructions will be sent with the recommendation letter in May.
