Dear Parents/Guardians of Winnequah and Monona Grove High School Students,

Human Growth and Development (HGD) units are part of the Health curriculum designed for students in grades 6, 7 and 10.  These units have been planned in conjunction with the Monona Grove Health Advisory Council and have been reviewed by the MGSD Curriculum Committee.

Included with this letter are the Monona Grove School District’s HGD Curriculum and Instruction Guidelines and the current class level Health and Wellness outline for your child's course.  As is stated in these guidelines, and because we believe strongly in parental involvement in your children’s learning, “Students will be encouraged to talk to and share class information with their parents/guardians in order to explore and develop values and beliefs in accordance with their family belief system. Students will be referred to family discussion for select topics not appropriate for class discussion.” 

Each document provides relevant information that will give you a detailed overview of the entire course intent and content.  The HGD curriculum focuses on values, self-concept, decision-making, physical development, personality and relationships with others as well as providing information for protective behaviors.

Textbooks will be available in the Monona Public Library and the Cottage Grove Library when it opens. The Winnequah and Monona Grove High School IMCs will also have copies of the texts available for your use/review.  Feel free to  contact your child’s teacher with any concerns or to view specific curriculum prior to or during individual units.

You as a parent may elect to exclude your child from the HGD portion of the Health curriculum.  To do so, notify your child’s health teacher in writing that you do not wish your child to participate in the HGD unit or part of the unit. 

 Home-school communication supports effective learning.  Please sign and return the bottom of the second page to your child’s teacher indicating that you have received this packet.   We believe that this course will have a positive impact on your student’s ability to make decisions and set goals for a healthy life.
